A Soto Zen temple established in 1696 by Fukuoka-domain chief retainer Tachibana Jitsuzan (Shigene) as founder, with Manzan Dohaku—one of the great reformers of Edo-era Soto Zen—invited from Kaga Daijoji as founding abbot. Origins
Founded 1696 with Tachibana Jitsuzan as patron and Manzan Dohaku of Kaga Daijoji as founding abbot. The Nanporoku, transmitted by Nanbo-school founder Jitsuzan, is a Fukuoka City Cultural Property. Relocated from Gionmachi in 1909 during the Hakata Station redevelopment.
