This shrine stands on the former residence site of Kamiya Sotan, a wealthy Hakata merchant. In 1587, after being received by Hideyoshi at a tea gathering in Osaka Castle, Sotan—nicknamed "the monk of Chikushi"—became a trusted figure and also had contact with Sen no Rikyu. The site preserves a historical link between Rikyu, who produced Hideyoshi's tea ceremonies, and Sotan, who helped rebuild Hakata.
