Wada-zuka is the burial mound of Wada Yoshimori, who supported Yoritomo's uprising as a member of the Miura clan. Trusted by Yoritomo, Yoshimori served as the first head of the Samurai-dokoro. After Yoritomo's death, he clashed with Hojo Yoshitoki and was killed in the Wada Battle of 1213, marking the end of his clan.

Wada-zuka is the mound said to entomb Wada Yoshimori and his kin, who fell in the Wada Rebellion of 1213 after their defeat by Hojo Yoshitoki. Yoshimori, head of the Samurai-dokoro (board of retainers), and the Wada clan were destroyed in this battle, and real power in the Kamakura shogunate concentrated ever more firmly in Hojo hands.
