Anrakuji Temple Ruins (Miura, Hatsuse)
神奈川県
Wada Yoshimori, the first Samurai-dokoro Bettō of the Kamakura shogunate, founded Anrakuji on a site lying at the rear-demon-gate of his own residence and enshrined a Yakushi Nyorai image attributed to Gyōki as his personal guardian image. Yoshimori is best known for founding Jōrakuji in Ashina, Yokosuka, in 1189, where he commissioned Unkei to sculpt its principal Amida triad and other images; Anrakuji likewise gathered the devotion of Yoshimori and the Wada clan. After Yoshimori's death at the Battle of Wada in 1213, the temple continued to enjoy local faith, but it was abolished in 1943 during the wartime fortification of the Miura Peninsula. The Yakushi Nyorai image was then relocated to Ten'yōin, where it remains today.
