Hiki Clan Incident
In 1203, Hojo Tokimasa lured Hiki Yoshikazu to his residence and murdered him, then destroyed the entire Hiki clan. The Hiki had wielded power as the maternal relatives of the second shogun Yoriie. When Yoriie fell ill, Tokimasa seized the opportunity. Yoriie's heir Ichiman was killed at age 6, and Yoriie was confined to Shuzenji temple in Izu, where he was murdered the following year. This incident gave the Hojo complete control of the shogunate.

In 1203, lured to the Nagoe residence by Tokimasa's scheme and assassinated. Immediately after, Hojo forces stormed the Hiki residence in this valley, destroying the clan. His heir Ichiman (age 6) was also killed. His youngest son Yoshimoto survived and later founded Myohonji here as a memorial.
