Popularly known as Hase Kannon. Its standing eleven-faced Kannon statue (9.18m tall) is one of the largest wooden Buddhist statues in Japan.

Origins

According to temple tradition, in 736 the priest Tokudo carved two Eleven-Faced Kannon statues — one enshrined in Yamato Hasedera, the other cast into the sea, which washed ashore in Sagami. Hours

Regular period (July–March): 8:00–16:30 (gates close at 17:00). Extended period (April–June): 8:00–17:00 (gates close at 17:30).

Admission

Adults (junior high school age and above): 400 yen; elementary school students: 200 yen; holders of the Kamakura City Fukuju Techō: 200 yen. The Kannon Museum requires a separate admission fee (adults 500 yen, elementary school students 200 yen).
