Overview
The birthplace of Takasugi Shinsaku (1839-1867), the Choshu samurai who organized the Kiheitai militia. A student of Yoshida Shoin at Shoka Sonjuku, Takasugi led the anti-shogunate movement with fierce energy until his death from tuberculosis at age 29.
Origins
Takasugi Shinsaku was born at this site in Minami-Furutohagi-machi, Hagi, in 1839, the eldest son of Choshu retainer Takasugi Kochuta.
