Kikuya Residence is one of Japan's oldest surviving townhouse structures, home to a prominent Hagi merchant family. Serving the Mori domain and housing shogunal inspectors, the Kikuya were among the most prestigious merchant families. Five buildings are designated Important Cultural Properties.
