Houses the grave of Yodogimi (Chacha), who perished in the Summer Siege of Osaka in 1615, making this a pilgrimage site for Toyotomi history enthusiasts. One of the Seven Temples of Shitennoji, quietly preserving imperial and aristocratic heritage in the heart of busy Kita-ku, Osaka.
Origins
Founded by Kukai in 821 at the imperial command of Emperor Saga. Prince Minamoto no Toru donated the temple halls and lent the temple its name. Taiyuji Temple holds the grave of Yodo-dono (Chacha), Hideyoshi's consort. After his death, when the Toyotomi clan fell at the Siege of Osaka in 1615 and Yodo-dono took her own life, she is said to have been buried here, making the temple a site that preserves the tragic downfall of the prosperity Hideyoshi had built.
