Rebuilt in 1600 by Kuroda Nagamasa on the current Chiyo site after the 1586 Iwaya Castle fire, it served as the Kuroda family funerary temple for the entire Fukuoka domain. The precinct contains the graves of domain founder Kuroda Yoshitaka (Kanbei), Nagamasa, and successive lords, alongside the main gate, Chinese gate, and Buddha hall designated as Fukuoka Prefectural cultural properties.
