In 1589 (Tensho 17), Toyotomi Hideyoshi prayed at Fushimi Inari Taisha for the recovery of his mother Omandokoro from illness. When she recovered, he granted a vermillion-seal document prohibiting hunting at the shrine and undertook repairs of the sanctuary and construction of the romon (tower gate). The extant romon (Important Cultural Property), commissioned by Hideyoshi in Tensho 17, was completed in 1594 (Bunroku 3). With Hideyoshi's construction of Fushimi Castle in 1592, the entire Fushimi area became a political center, and Fushimi Inari attracted the reverence of the supreme ruler.

Kukai (Kobo Daishi) is said to have deeply venerated Fushimi Inari as the guardian deity of To-ji Temple after he was granted the temple around 816 (Konin 7). Tradition recounts that the Inari deity, appearing as an old man in Tanabe in Kishu, lent Kukai timber for the construction of To-ji — an episode considered the origin of the connection between To-ji and Inari devotion. The syncretism of Shingon esoteric Buddhism and Inari worship became the core of medieval Inari devotional development.

赤い鳥居が無限に続く“映え最強の神社” 京都にある超有名神社！山全体が神社になっていて登れる。商売繁盛の神様が有名みたい（お金・ビジネス系) キツネが神の使いで、漫画のナルトの九尾のモデルもここの神社とか。。無数にある赤い鳥居は圧巻でとても荘厳な雰囲気だった。

Hours

The shrine grounds, including the pilgrimage route up Mt. Inari, are open for worship 24 hours a day. The amulet office is open roughly from around 7:00 to 18:00.

Admission

No admission fee. Both the shrine precincts and Mt. Inari can be visited free of charge.
