Fundan-in is a sub-temple of Tofukuji founded in the Gen-o era (1321–1324) by the regent Ichijo Uchitsune to pray for his father's soul, popularly known as "Sesshuji" (Sesshu Temple) after the karesansui garden attributed to the artist Sesshu.
