Akiba Shrine in Taito City is the origin of the name 'Akihabara.' Founded in the early Meiji era as a fire-prevention deity transplanted from Akihasan in Mikawa Province, it protected this area prone to Edo-era fires.
由緒
Founded in 1870 by imperial decree following the 1869 fire, transferring fire-prevention deities from Momijiyama within Edo Castle. The place name 'Akihabara' derives from 'Akiba no Hara,' the shrine's original precinct name.
