Yanagimori Shrine dates to the 1470s when Ota Dokan planted willows for Edo Castle's protection. The 'Otanuki-san' raccoon-dog deity in the Fukuju shrine was worshipped by Keisho-in, mother of the 5th Shogun Tsunayoshi, and is sought for success and advancement.
In the Bunmei era, Ota Dokan planted willows and enshrined an Inari deity for Edo Castle's protection. Through the faith of Keisho-in (mother of Shogun Tsunayoshi), the 'Otanuki-san' became widely popular.
