Yoritomo relocated this shrine, originally founded by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi in 1063, to its current location as Tsurugaoka Hachimangu in 1180. Known as Moto-Hachiman, it preserves the origins of Minamoto clan Hachiman worship.

Yoshitoki died in 1224 at age 62. For his achievements in overcoming the Jokyu War alongside Masako and establishing regent politics, he was buried just east of Yoritomo's Hokke-do. Excavations in 2005 confirmed large-scale building remains, now a nationally designated historic site.
