Yogenin was founded in 1594 by Yodogimi, concubine of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, as a memorial for her father Azai Nagamasa on the twenty-first anniversary of his death. 伏見城の戦い
1600年(慶長5年)、関ヶ原の戦いの直前、伏見城(現在の京都府京都市伏見区)において、徳川方の鳥居元忠が石田三成方の大軍を相手に籠城した戦い。家康が会津征伐に向かった隙を突いて三成が挙兵し、伏見城を攻撃。鳥居元忠は寡兵ながら約10日間の籠城戦を展開し、城に火を放って壮絶な最期を遂げた。元忠の奮戦は家康の東軍諸将の心を奮い立たせ、関ヶ原の勝利につながる重要な時間稼ぎとなった。血に染まった廊下の板は後に養源院に移され「血天井」として現在も残っている。
