An ancient shrine that has stood in the shadow of Gifu Castle since ancient times. Since the Sengoku period it has drawn devotion as the guardian deity of the Gifu castle town, and it remains cherished today as the local tutelary shrine (ubusunagami) of Gifu's citizens.
