Overview
A noted Rinzai Zen temple in Gifu closely associated with Oda Nobunaga. The surviving Nobunaga Shuinjo (vermilion-seal documents) and a temple bell are designated Important Cultural Properties, and personal effects of Nobunaga are preserved here — making it a first-rate primary source for Nobunaga's Gifu years.
Origins
Sofukuji Temple was founded in 1468 by Toki Nariyori, the military governor (shugo) of Mino Province, as a temple of the Myoshinji branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. It was established at the foot of Mt.
