The surviving Nobunaga Shuinjo (vermilion-seal documents) and a temple bell are designated Important Cultural Properties, and personal effects of Nobunaga are preserved here — making it a first-rate primary source for Nobunaga's Gifu years.

Sofukuji Temple was founded in 1468 by Toki Nariyori, the military governor (shugo) of Mino Province, as a temple of the Myoshinji branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. It was established at the foot of Mt. As lord of Gifu Castle, Nobunaga was a devoted patron of Sofukuji, granting the temple lands and official vermilion-seal documents. The surviving Oda Nobunaga Shuinjo (Important Cultural Property) is direct evidence of this patronage and a primary source from his Gifu years. Relics of Nobunaga were also preserved at this temple after the Honnoji Incident.
