During Hideyoshi's sweeping urban redevelopment of Kyoto in the Tensho era, the precincts of Seimei Shrine were further reduced. His city planning involved the systematic relocation of temples and shrines across the capital, and this sacred site of the legendary onmyoji Abe no Seimei—already diminished by medieval conflicts—was not spared from the changes wrought by the new ruler of Japan.
