概要
Osu Kannon (Hoshouin), formally known as Kitanoyama Shinpukuji Hoshouin, is a Shingon-Chisan temple in Naka Ward, Nagoya. Along with Asakusa Kannon and Tsu Kannon, it is counted among Japan's Three Great Kannon. The principal image is Sho Kannon Bosatsu. In 1612, Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered the relocation of Osu Kannon (Hoshoin) from its original site in Hashima, Gifu Prefecture, to its present location within Nagoya's castle town. As part of Ieyasu's urban development of Nagoya, the temple grounds were established here, and under the patronage of the Owari Tokugawa clan, the Osu district flourished as a thriving temple town.
