川中島の戦い(第四次)
1561年9月10日、信濃国川中島(現在の長野県長野市川中島)で行われた武田信玄と上杉謙信の第四次合戦。五回に及ぶ川中島合戦の中で最大・最激烈な戦いとして知られる。謙信が「啄木鳥戦法」を見抜いた信玄の軍勢と川霧の中で激突し、両軍合わせて一万人以上の死傷者を出したとされる。謙信が信玄の本陣に斬り込み、信玄が軍扇で受けとめたという一騎討ちの伝説は後世に語り継がれている。両軍とも決定的な勝利を得られないまま引き分けとなったが、日本戦国史上最も有名な合戦として、両雄の気概と戦略が語り継がれる。
