Founded in 1648 by Asano Mitsunari, the lord of Hiroshima domain, to commemorate the 21st anniversary of Tokugawa Iemitsu's death. The main hall, karamon gate, and fence are designated Important Cultural Properties. The buildings survived the atomic bomb blast and are cherished as hibaku (atomic-bombed) structures.

1648年浅野光晟が創建。原爆の爆風にも倒壊せず、現存する被爆建造物の中でも特に貴重な近世建築として知られる。
