Toyotomi Hideyoshi's reorganization of Kyoto during the Tensho–Keicho era gathered temples that had been scattered across the city into a single district, creating the Teramachi ("temple town"). Yadadera is said to have relocated to its present site at Teramachi-Sanjo as part of this policy, making it one of the temples that shaped Kyoto's Teramachi-dori.
