Overview
The guardian shrine of Ikebukuro West Exit, founded during the Genbun era (1736–1741). Known as 'the owl shrine' — the owl (fukuro) evokes freedom from hardship (fu-kuro). Many stone owl figures are dedicated on the grounds. Despite its location steps from the busy west exit, the precinct offers a tranquil worship space.

Ikebukuro Mitake Shrine is said to have been founded around 1738, during the Genbun era (1736–1741), when the region was under the rule of Tokugawa Yoshimune, the eighth shogun of the Edo Bakufu.
