Chokokuji in Ueda, Nagano, is a Soto Zen temple and Sanada clan mausoleum (Sanada Honbyo), enshrining Sanada Masayuki and Yukimura. The adjacent Sanada Treasure Hall displays armor, letters, and arms. Together with Ueda Castle ruins, it is the heart of any Sanada heritage tour.
Origins
Chokoku-ji Temple was founded in 1622 (Genna 8) by Sanada Nobuyuki (Nobushige), who established it in Ueda to hold memorial services on the seventh anniversary of his father Sanada Masayuki's death.
