A Hachimangu shrine featuring a National Treasure main hall built in 1607 by Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai domain. The Gongen-zukuri complex of three connected halls — main hall, stone chamber, and worship hall — is adorned with the magnificent gold-and-lacquer ornamentation of the Azuchi-Momoyama period and is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Momoyama architecture.

In 1607 Masamune transferred the Hachiman deity from Uguisumaru Shrine in Chikuzen (present-day Fukuoka) and built Osaki Hachimangu as the chief guardian shrine of the Sendai domain. The main hall — a masterpiece of Momoyama architecture featuring gold carvings against black lacquer, designated a National Treasure — exemplifies Masamune's religious devotion and refined aesthetic sensibility.
