Overview
The Sendai City Museum stands on the ruins of the third ward of Sendai Castle. It houses the National Treasure Keicho Embassy materials brought back from Rome by Hasekura Tsunenaga, as well as Masamune's armor and letters. Essential stop when touring the castle ruins.
Origins
The Sendai City Museum opened in 1961 (Showa 36) as a comprehensive institution dedicated to the history and culture of the Sendai domain and the city. The museum stands on the site of the third ward (sannomaru) of Sendai Castle, constructed by Date Masamune from around 1601. Among its most treasure…
