Founded in 1628, Fukusaiji is an Obaku Zen temple counted among the Three Fukuji Temples of Nagasaki alongside Sofukuji and Kofukuji. Its Chinese-style buildings were destroyed in the 1945 atomic bombing but were rebuilt after the war. The rebuilt main hall is topped by a striking eleven-meter bronze Kannon standing on a giant turtle, and the precinct commands a panoramic view of Nagasaki Harbor. …
