概要
A hilltop castle built in 1457 by Ota Doshin and Dokan, serving as the seat of the Kawagoe domain in the Edo period. The surviving Honmaru Goten (main hall) is a National Important Cultural Property — one of the very few remaining castle-palace buildings in Japan. Known as Koedo (Little Edo), Kawagoe preserves an Edo-period townscape of kurazukuri warehouse architecture.
由緒
Built in 1457 by Ota Doshin and Dokan as a stronghold for the Kanto deputy shogun Uesugi clan. In the Edo period it served as the Kawagoe domain headquarters. The surviving Honmaru Goten was rebuilt in 1848 and is designated a National Important Cultural Property.
