Apex of Regency Politics, Poet of the Full Moon
Kasuga Taisha was inseparably linked to the power of the Fujiwara regent family, including Fujiwara no Michinaga. At the height of his power — when he composed the verse 'This world, I think, is indeed my world' — Michinaga used veneration of Kasuga Taisha as a source of political legitimacy. Together with Kofukuji (the Fujiwara clan temple) next door, it formed the spiritual foundation of Fujiwara authority in Nara.
