Ise Jingu Geku (Toyouke Daijingu), the Outer Shrine, enshrines Toyouke no Omikami — guardian of food, clothing, shelter, and industry. Located 6 km from the Inner Shrine in a majestic cedar forest, it has been visited first by pilgrims since 477 CE. Like the Naiku, it undergoes Shikinen Sengu every 20 years.

雄略天皇22年（477年）、天照大御神の御饌都神として丹波国から豊受大神を迎えたのが創祀とされる。持統天皇4年（690年）から内宮と同様に20年ごとの式年遷宮が行われる。正宮は内宮と同じ唯一神明造。
