Dojuin is a sub-temple of Tofukuji founded in the Bun-an era (1444–1448) by Kinkei Ryokun; its principal image, the Juwan Fudo Myoo statue, is designated an Important Cultural Property as a surviving Buddha from Hosei-ji, built by Fujiwara no Michinaga. Dojuin is a sub-temple of Tofukuji founded in the Bun-an era (1444–1448) by Kinkei Ryokun; its principal image, the Juwan Fudo Myoo statue, is designated an Important Cultural Property as a surviving Buddha from Hosei-ji, built by Fujiwara no Michinaga. The name "Juwan" (One Hundred Thousand) is said to derive from the tradition that Michinaga commissioned the statue with the labor of one hundred thousand people.
