Site of the Sendai domain's outer-Sakurada upper residence, granted to its founder Date Masamune by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1601. The sprawling estate once extended from the west bank of today's Shinji-ike Pond through the tennis courts and along the Hibiya moat to the Small Music Hall area of Hibiya Park. 由緒
Sendai domain upper residence granted to Masamune by Ieyasu in 1601. Visited 11 times by Ieyasu, Hidetada, and Iemitsu. Masamune died here at 70 in 1636. Used as Sendai"s Edo residence until 1661, lost in Meiji-era Hibiya Park development. A memorial stone now stands in the park.
