Overview
The oldest temple on Miyajima, founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in 806 CE. Headquarters of the Shingon Omuro school and the supplementary temple of Itsukushima Shrine, it was revered by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Mori Motonari. The Maniden hall commands magnificent views of the shrine and Seto Inland Sea.

Daishoin is the oldest temple on Miyajima Island, traditionally said to have been founded in 806 CE by the monk Kukai (Kobo Daishi) during the Daido era.
