Mori Motonari is said to have deeply venerated Daishoin alongside Itsukushima Shrine, offering prayers for victory in his campaigns to unify the Chugoku region. Treating all of Miyajima Island as sacred ground, he revered Daishoin as a spiritual pillar and is said to have prayed here before the Battle of Itsukushima in 1555.

The oldest temple on Miyajima, founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in 806 CE.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi is said to have prayed for victory at Daishoin Temple in 1592, before launching his invasion of Korea. In connection with this, temple treasures including a letter in Hideyoshi's own hand remain preserved there today, testifying to the bond between the unifier of Japan and Miyajima's foremost ancient temple.
