In 1575, Kosaka Masanobu (Kasuga Torakage), a senior retainer of Takeda Shingen, is said to have built a hermitage at this site while traveling to Edo, marking the origin of Sasadera Chozenji Temple. It preserves the history of a Takeda vassal establishing a foothold in Edo after Shingen's death, making it one of Yotsuya's oldest temples.
