The Uesugi Family Mausoleum, a National Historic Site, contains the tombs of 12 generations of Uesugi lords of Yonezawa. Centered on Uesugi Kenshin's mausoleum, the dignified complex of white-plastered tomb halls lies among 400-year-old cedar trees.

Uesugi Kenshin died in 1578 at Kasugayama Castle in Echigo Province at the age of 49.
