On March 2, 1582, Nobunaga's son Nobutada besieged Takato Castle with 50,000 troops. Nishina Morinobu, with only about 3,000 men, fought to the last, setting fire to the castle before taking his own life. Nobunaga himself would die at Honnoji shortly afterward, but Morinobu's final stand is remembered as the epitome of samurai resolve.
