In 724, while suppressing an Emishi uprising, Ono no Azumahito is credited with building Taga Fort (Taga Castle) in Mutsu Province, and his name is inscribed on the Taga Castle Stele. In 729 he was appointed Chinju Shogun of Mutsu Province, administering the Tohoku region from Taga Castle, and in 737 he also proposed and carried out the opening of a direct road from Taga Fort to Dewa Fort.
