Shunpanro is the historic ryotei where the Treaty of Shimonoseki ending the First Sino-Japanese War was signed on April 17, 1895. Ito Hirobumi and Mutsu Munemitsu negotiated with Li Hongzhang here. The adjacent Japan-Qing Peace Memorial Museum preserves original furnishings.
Shunpanro is said to have been established as a ryotei and inn in the early Meiji era in Amidaracho, Shimonoseki.
