Kessanji is a Soto-sect temple in Shiroishi that serves as the mausoleum of Katakura Kojuro Kagetsuna, Masamune's brilliant strategist. Founded in 1576. The graves of successive Katakura lords make it a pilgrimage site for Sengoku history fans. A lone cedar planted per Kagetsuna's dying wish serves as his grave marker.
