Built by Doi Toshikatsu in 1610 (Keicho 15), the castle is famous for being defended solely with earthworks and dry moats without using stone walls. Built by Doi Toshikatsu in 1610. Served as the domain headquarters of Sakura Domain until the end of the Edo period. Famous as an earthwork castle without stone walls. The National Museum of Japanese History stands on the castle ruins.
