Shochojuin, built by Yoritomo in 1185 to honor his father Yoshitomo, was the largest temple in Kamakura. Masako frequently visited alongside Yoritomo, and continued her pilgrimages after his death as an expression of devotion to her late husband.

The place where Sanetomo governed as the third shogun. However, real power was held by his mother Masako and uncle Yoshitoki, and Sanetomo devoted himself to poetry and scholarship.

Raigeiji stands close to the site of Yoritomo's Hokkedō mausoleum and was founded to mourn Miura Yoshizumi, one of his most trusted vassals. Yoshizumi served as one of the "Thirteen Lords of Kamakura" who supported the founding of the shogunate. Situated near his lord's resting place, this temple preserves the deep bond between Yoritomo and his retainers.
