Founded in 1193 when Yoritomo dreamed of Tenjin on a bull after his Oshu campaign; considered the origin of the rubbing-bull custom, this is one of the Seven Great Tenjin of Eastern Japan on the Kasuga heights.
Founded in 1193 by Minamoto no Yoritomo. Returning from his Oshu campaign, he moored his boat to a pine at this inlet and napped while waiting for the wind to calm. In his dream, Sugawara no Michizane appeared riding a bull and prophesied 'two happy events.' Upon waking, he found a bull-shaped stone. Founded in 1193 when Yoritomo dreamed of Tenjin riding a bull at this site after his Oshu campaign. Relocated during construction of the Mito domain mansion. One of the Seven Great Tenjin of Eastern Japan, its gate-front district flourished as a major Koishikawa commercial area.
