Overview
Nihonmatsu Castle, also called Kasumigajo ("Castle of Mist"), is a mountain castle in central Fukushima. Built in 1414 by Hatakeyama Mitsuyasu, it served as the seat of the Nihonmatsu (Hatakeyama) clan for seven generations until Date Masamune captured it in 1586, ending the clan. Nihonmatsu Castle was built in 1414 by Hatakeyama Mitsuyasu and served as the seat of the Nihonmatsu (Hatakeyama) clan for seven generations. 粟ノ巣の変跡(伊達輝宗横死の地)
1585年(天正13年)10月、伊達政宗の父・輝宗が二本松義継に拉致され、政宗の命令で撃たれたとされる「粟ノ巣の変」の現場。二本松城主・義継が降伏交渉中に突如輝宗を拉致して連れ去ろうとしたため、政宗は父もろとも義継を討ち取るよう命じた。父の死を見届けた政宗はわずか19歳で仙台藩の当主となり、翌年には小手森城の撫で斬りを行うなど急速に勢力を拡大していく。この事件が政宗の苛烈な行動の原点となったという見方もある。現在、事件の現場とされる二本松市の山間部に石碑が建てられており、訪れる人は少ないが東北戦国史の重要な転換点として歴史ファンに知られる。輝宗の横死は政宗の人生に深い影を落とした悲劇の現場。
