Overview
Nagahama Castle was built in 1573 by Hashiba Hideyoshi after his capture of Odani Castle, when Nobunaga granted him three districts in northern Omi. It was Hideyoshi's first castle as a daimyo and the departure point of his rise to power. The current reconstructed keep houses the Nagahama Castle History Museum, introducing Hideyoshi's life and northern Omi history.
Origins
In 1573 (Tenshō 1), Hashiba Hideyoshi was granted three districts of northern Ōmi by Oda Nobunaga in recognition of his role in the capture of Odani Castle, and he constructed Nagahama Castle on the shores of Lake Biwa.
