Nagahama Castle was built in 1573 by Hashiba Hideyoshi after his capture of Odani Castle, when Nobunaga granted him three districts in northern Omi. It was Hideyoshi's first castle as a daimyo and the departure point of his rise to power. The current reconstructed keep houses the Nagahama Castle History Museum, introducing Hideyoshi's life and northern Omi history.
