A Nichiren-sect temple founded in 1648 by Nichiyu Shonin. When the Battle of Ueno broke out on May 15, 1868, the temple sheltered routed Shogitai soldiers and was riddled with bullets from the imperial army — and those bullet holes remain vividly preserved on the main gate to this day, making it one of the most iconic surviving physical relics of the Boshin War in Tokyo. 由緒
Founded in 1648 by Nichiyu Shonin. During the May 1868 Battle of Ueno, it sheltered routed Shogitai soldiers and the main gate was struck by new-government forces — the bullet holes survive today as one of the rare physical traces of the Boshin War.
