A Shingon Buddhist temple located on Kurikara Pass, which straddles Oyabe City in Toyama Prefecture and Tsubata Town in Ishikawa Prefecture. Traditionally said to have been founded in the Nara period, with Kukai (Kobo Daishi) said to have enshrined the Kurikara Dragon King here. In the 1182 Battle of Kurikara Pass, Kiso Yoshinaka won a great victory over the Taira clan, a battle that became a turning point of the Genpei War.
