A Tenjin shrine in Kitamoto City enshrining Sugawara no Michizane and known for blessings of exam success and academic achievement. During exam season the precinct fills with ema votive tablets from students. Plum trees loved by Michizane bloom in early spring, watched over by this learning deity amid Kitamoto's beautiful natural setting.

Kitamoto Tenmangu is traditionally said to have been founded around 1650 (the 3rd year of the Kan'an era).
