In 748 (Tenpyō 20), the celebrated Man'yōshū poet Ōtomo no Yakamochi, then serving as governor of Etchū, visited Keta Taisha during his tour of the Noto region. A poem composed there is preserved in Book 17 of the Man'yōshū. As a record of imperial officialdom's veneration of Keta in antiquity, this poem remains a precious testament to the shrine's age.
Maeda Toshiie
Founder of the Million-Koku Kaga Domain

In 1581 (Tenshō 9), Maeda Toshiie, a vassal of Oda Nobunaga, was granted the entire Noto Province. Toshiie and his descendants, the Maeda lords of Kaga Domain, became devoted patrons of Keta Taisha. Through their support, the main hall, worship hall, shrine gate, and other structures — five buildings in total — were constructed, all of which remain today as National Important Cultural Properties.
