One of the four great Toshogu shrines in Japan, located in Senba, Kawagoe. Tokugawa Ieyasu's funeral cortege rested here for four days as the monk Tenkai presided over ceremonies. The current magnificent gongen-zukuri hall was built by Shogun Iemitsu in 1633 and is a National Important Cultural Property. Located adjacent to Kitain, the two sites form Kawagoe's historical core.
